Snow Castles!

Colorado never fails to dump a good snow just when you are ready to put away the snow boots and break out the tent. This year was no different so today we made a snow castle and baked cookies.

But in true Colorado style, the snow will be long gone in a few days and we can get back to spring, including a visit to the 6th annual Kites in the Park.
I remember having kites as a kid and taking them to the school field a few blocks from our house on a good windy day. I mostly remember picking out the kite at the store, carefully choosing whichever one had my favorite character of the moment. Although I can’t remember actually flying one myself, I do remember watching my brother fly his- he being four years older and always better at everything.
There’s something kind of magical about unfolding an inanimate object and throwing it up in the air and guiding it by a string. So I am assuming Layla will be just as fascinated as me when we go to the annual Fort Collins Kite Festival at Spring Canyon Park.
She’s actually been to it more times than me, seeing as she went last year with her dad, Papa and Nanny while I was at work- but I did my homework this year (thank you growingupfortcollins.com!) and I made sure to take Sunday, April 28th off.
In addition to watching the professionals fly their kites, Layla will even have her own kite this year- with Darth Vader on it of course- courtesy Grandma Elaine.
Although we’ve added this new festival to the rotation, I’m sure we’ll still visit our old favorites, making an appearance at New West Fest and Tour de Fat (now a little different with a kiddo), but discovering all the summer festivities catering to families will be an adventure too. We’ll especially enjoy finding the ones that aren’t necessarily all midways and funnel cakes, although who doesn’t like a good funnel cake now and again.
