While Dad's Away the Girls Will Play

What do you do when the husband has to work the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas for a week? You call in the reserves, aka, fly in grandma, of course!

It being the middle of winter and having limited time off, we didn’t venture too far from home, but what is better than waking up at our leisure, each having our drink of choice- juice, tea and coffee respectively- while watching a thrilled  Layla show off all her new tricks to a captivated audience.

We had a late lunch at Austins, watched a Jane Austen movie with popcorn (you just know Court is sooooo jealous reading this…) The next day we checked out brunch at Dave’s Day Diner- it wasn’t love at first bite like Snooze, but glad to add it to the Fort Collins breakfast options- two words- griddle biscuits. That afternoon we visited the Discovery Museum again where Layla took grandma around to her favorite exhibits.

Those who have grandparents near by may take it for granted, but it was the best week at work knowing my little one was home with grandma, hearing the same songs sung to me, reading Where the Wild Things Are and making oatmeal cookies instead of hanging out with all those tyke sized thugs who teach her how to scream and not listen to her parents- that‘s where two year olds learn all that, right?

Of course Layla chose her special time with grandma to practice a new phrase (damn it)- a phrase I am sure she learned at daycare, surely it was daycare, grandma, surely.

But cursing aside, Layla and Grandma enjoyed their time together and once again we sent another loving relative back to the mysterious land of Illinois, where we send all her loved ones at the end of visits- we’ll have to take her there soon-she has to wonder where this place is and why everyone eventually goes back there.
